Empowering Educators for Green Schools and Climate Action
Course Description: Sustainable Life & Environment
Course Overview
In an era of rapid climate change and ecological challenges, schools have a vital role to play in shaping a sustainable future. This highly practical 5-day Erasmus+ teacher training course is designed to equip educators with the knowledge, pedagogical tools, and creative strategies needed to integrate sustainability and environmental awareness into their classrooms and school communities.
Moving beyond dry theories, this course adopts a hands-on, cross-curricular approach. Participants will dive into the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), explore the circular economy, experience outdoor learning, and tackle climate emotions. Crucially, every module includes a “How to Teach” component, ensuring that teachers do not just learn environmental concepts, but actively master how to translate them into impactful, project-based lessons for their students back home.
Target Audience
- Primary and secondary school teachers
- School principals, headmasters, and educational coordinators
- Environmental education officers and sustainability coordinators
- Teachers of all subjects interested in cross-curricular green projects
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Navigate global frameworks: Understand and teach the UN SDGs and Planetary Boundaries with confidence.
- Implement practical audits: Conduct school-wide waste, carbon footprint, and sustainability audits to foster a “Whole-School Approach.”
- Design experiential lessons: Utilize hands-on labs, the iNaturalist platform, upcycling challenges, and green tech activities.
- Apply outdoor pedagogy: Master “Slow Pedagogy” and nature-based learning to reconnect students with local biodiversity.
- Address climate anxiety: Facilitate healthy classroom discussions around climate emotions and green justice.
- Build actionable strategies: Draft a concrete “Back-Home Action Plan” to implement green initiatives in their local schools immediately.
Course Methodology
This course is rooted in active learning, peer collaboration, and experiential pedagogy. Participants will engage in fieldwork, interactive workshops, design challenges, and micro-teaching sessions where they can practice their new skills in a supportive peer environment. Daily reflection sessions are woven into the schedule to help teachers ground their learning within their own specific cultural and educational contexts.
